Back to Our Roots.

Back to Our Roots

It all started in the Radnor High School cafeteria.

We are thrilled to share that the African Education Program’s Executive Director Julie-Anne Savarit-Cosenza is being inducted into the Radnor High School Hall of Fame.

This honor is more than a tribute to her dedication to the African Education Program since our founding in the school’s cafeteria. It is a tribute to all of our committed supporters who have made our work possible since the first shipment of books and computers to Kafue, Zambia in 2005.

Back to Our Roots

Always focused on how to increase our impact, we rarely reflect on all we have achieved.

Let’s go “Back to Our Roots” and take a look at everything we have accomplished at our flagship Learning & Leadership Center in Kafue.

Initially serving 25 youth, today over 750+ children, youth and women access programs focused on education, health, gender equity, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

The Nutrition Program began with volunteers bringing two loaves of bread and cheese to the Center. Today, over 250 hot, nutritious meals are served five days a week.

Children with disabilities were always welcome at the Center, but tailored programs were limited. Today, 21 girls and boys access a full-fledged program with individualized learning.

In 2008, we awarded 1 College Scholarship. Today, over 100 college graduates who studied teaching, health, economics, agriculture and more, are leaders in their community.

Well-being of children starts at home, so we empower their mothers through a Women’s Business Training. Graduates on average doubled their income from $1 per day to $2.60.

Today, less than 2% of young women at the Center become pregnant compared to 15-20% locally and 30% in our first year of operations.

Girls at the Center used to miss school during their menstrual cycle. Today, they receive reusable menstrual products. 92% report feeling comfortable managing their periods.
